Boracay refferred to as a “cesspool” after President Duterte’s announcement of a six-month closure; scheduled on April 26 it was said that the date was hanpicked and was not radomly picked.
April 26 – was a suggested date to prevent “Laboracay” which is a big event held on a weekend very close to “Labor day”. This week-long event would cause Boracay to be messy again according to DOT so they would prefer the closure to happen beforehand.
6 months was already a downgrade of the original planned closure of 1 year DOT, DENR, and DILG all thought one year could be too long, 6 secretaries have considered including -Leones who actually said it.
I personally support the idea of Boracay’s closure despite the business churns, but would six months be enough for the Islands’ restotation?
